Whether by car, by train, by ferry or by bus, there are many options to reach the island of Rügen.
Two bridges connect Rügen and the mainland: the Rugia Bridge for car traffic and the lower Rugia Causeway for rail and car traffic. The crossing is free of charge (no car toll). Please take account of the the lifting times of the Rugia Causeway, which is opened five times per day for 20 minutes for ship traffic (see below).
Additionally, one can travel to the island of Rügen by car ferry.
On the island: Mobility for free with “Bus frei” („bus for free“) in Baabe, Göhren, Sellin, Gager, Thiessow and Middelhagen. Resort card holders can use the busses of the VVR free of charge within the three Baltic Sea resorts. The local railways in the seaside resorts are free-to-use as well. The transport company’s RADzfatz-busses (RAD translates as „bike“) are available for bike transport in summer. Furthermore, the combi-ticket „Wasser & Dampf“ („Water & Steam“) can be used, to go on a boat tour with the “Sundevit” and on a ride with the “Rasender Roland” (“Racing Roland”), a steam-powered narrow-gauge railway
